Beef Up Your Butcher

This Flavours Award, sponsored by Eblex, was a public vote that took place last summer. Butchers were asked to encourage their customers to fill in a form and send to Visit Herefordshire….the winner for this category

Best Steak

For this first category, judges were looking for the Best Ribeye Steak Herefordshire has to offer.

The category was judged as a blind tasting scored individually on appearance, tenderness and flavour.

Scores were tallied up at the end to produce the results……………….

The Young Chef Category

The semi-finals for this category were held in September at Herefordshire College of Technology and the finals were held at a ‘cook off’ the all pay Flavours of Herefordshire Festival on Sunday 28th October.

As a prize, each Young Chef that took part in the finals at the festival gets a set of knives courtesy of Axon Enterprise & Electrolux.

Stacey & Tom made it through to the ‘cook off’ at the allpay Flavours of Herefordshire Festival and the results were………..

Judges comments: “Tom has worked tirelessly each year to raise his game through entering the Young Chef category. He has taken on feedback and this year has paid off.”

Tom has won a trip for 2 to the ‘Milan Host Event’ in October 2013 exhibition in Italy courtesy of Axon Enterprises & Electrolux.

 

The Best Food & Drink Product from Herefordshire

All 35 products were scored individually and judged on look, smell, taste, provenance and products had to have “a strong sense of Herefordshire”.

Scores were tallied up at the end to produce the results and prizes are awarded to the overall winner, but Gold, Silver & Bronze are also awarded.

Thanks to Axon & the Duchy of Cornwall for providing prizes for the overall winners of the food and drink category.

Flavours Champion Herefordshire Cider

Ciders were not only judged with the other products, but also at the allpay Flavours of Herefordshire Festival through a talk and public tasting with Gabe Cook from Bulmers/Heineken would sponsored the event.

This award, sponsored by allpay, was given to the newest up and coming business and entrant into the Flavours of Herefordshire Awards for 2013. Judges were so impressed by the young lady and her involvement within the community. The award goes to…..

Simply Herefordshire

This category was open to any establishment that offers a plated meal in a seated dining area. The dish should constitute a main meal and be served to a table. It must reflect “All things Herefordshire” and be made using local ingredients as much as possible as well as providing value for money.

Throughout the whole of the Flavours of Herefordshire Award categories so far, the Simply Herefordshire was the most challenging category to shortlist due to the diversity of establishments in the county. Entries had more than doubled compared to previous years and there are so many great Herefordshire culinary delights to choose from.

Gourmet Herefordshire

This category was open to any establishment that offers a high standard of cuisine, service and ambience. “Menus should reflect a level of dining that shows creativity, imagination and originality. Usage of local Herefordshire produce should be apparent to diners but some usage of more international ingredients is permitted.”

The Gourmet was a challenging category to shortlist as there were so many quality venues to choose from. This is great news for visitors to the county as well as Herefordians wanting a special eating out experience.

King of Pies

This competition took place in the lead up to the allpay Flavours of Herefordshire festival, organised by Bill Sewell from All Saints Café in Hereford.

Pies lovers were asked to pick up a list & map of participating cafes, restaurants, pubs, delis, butchers and shops and enjoy delicious grub. They then had to rate the pies they ate and decide who should become the King or Queen of Pie!

Sausage of the Year

Sponsored by BPEX, this competition took place during the allpay Flavours of Herefordshire Festival and revellers were asked to pick their favourite sausage from the Ladies with Pigs stand over the weekend to award the People’s Choice Award. Also Judges were asked to pick from a selection of Sausages for the Judges Choice awards and the winners for both categories went to….
