Flavours of Herefordshire Awards 2013

Winners have been announced for the Flavours of Herefordshire Awards. TV presenter Jules Hudson, Herefordshire’s newest resident, revealed the winners of the prestigious Flavours of Herefordshire Awards 2013 at a special sparkling awards dinner.

A total of 11 category award winners were announced at the event which was held at the atmospheric Lyde Court on Saturday 2nd February 2013.  Compered by Mark Edwards from Sunshine Radio, the awards ceremony was filled with laughter and delight of the winners as the achievements mounted.

To follow in the footsteps of the success of last year’s Olympics, Bronze, Silver and Gold were awarded to the winners for each category for the Flavours of Herefordshire Awards.

Categories included the Beef Up Your Butcher, Best Steak, Young Chef, Best Food & Drink Product, Champion Herefordshire Cider, Herefordshire Food & Drink Ambassador, Herefordshire Food & Drink Prodigy, Simply Herefordshire and Gourmet Herefordshire. Following on from trade competitions that took place during the allpay Flavours of Herefordshire Festival 2012; King of Pies & Sausage of the Year was also awarded.

“The Awards Dinner was a great success, with excellent food in a lovely setting. The award winners were thrilled to be presented with their award from Jules Hudson and everyone had a great evening” said Helen Thomas, Managing Director of Westons and Visit Herefordshire Vice Chair.

Also, to celebrate the success of the Queens Jubilee celebrations last year, the winner’s plaques were made from Oak timber used to make “The Hereford Bull” – the replica Wye Trow seen in the Jubilee Pageant.

Gold winners were intrigued to receive their individually crafted plaques made from the same oak timber used to make the “The Hereford Bull” – the replica Wye Trow seen in the Jubilee Pageant. Sally-Ann Roberts, Managing Director of Visit Herefordshire explained “The Queens Jubilee celebrations were tremendous throughout the county last year – and it seemed fitting to commission the plaques using an artisan craftsman with the same materials”.

The Flavours of Herefordshire Awards, now in its 14th year, celebrates the best of food and drink in the county. The aim is to encourage, recognise and award not only local restaurants, pubs, hotels, cafes and bed & breakfasts who used and promoted products from local suppliers/producers but also the producers themselves.
